Create keepsake art from your child's artwork

Art from Art
If you are anything like me I have a hard time parting with all the wonderful artwork that my son creates.  I wanted to do something with his finger paintings that were accumulating.  I would rather see them in another form instead of hidden away in storage so here's what we did......(have your child help too for a fun family project)

Supplies used:
12x12 canvas
Mod Podge
Circle Punches (3 sizes)
Foam Brush

Start by punching out circles from the artwork.  I used 3 sizes of punches with the largest being 2".  I did some to start with and then as I assembled it I punched as I needed once my piles ran out.
Next I started in the bottom right of the canvas and applied mod podge to a small area of the canvas and mod podge to the backs of some circles and placed them on the canvas.  I then used a foam brush to spread some more mod podge over the circles.  I wanted a gradiant look so I continued with this process and spread out the circles more as I moved toward the top left corner.
I used a 12x12 canvas but you could change the size if desired.
Once dry I hung it up in my son's room so we can admire it everyday :)

Wooden Crate DIY Projects: Side Table and Storage Bench

DIY CRATE SIDE TABLE

BEFORE...a plain wood crate that was an estate sale find

AFTER....A GREAT NEW SIDE TABLE FOR OUR OUTDOOR COVERED PORCH
  • HOW I DID IT:
  • added 4 casters to the bottom for ease of movement (attached the casters to separate pieces of wood then attached the wood pieces to the crate in order to keep the screws from coming through the surface of the crate)
  • Had a local glass guy cut a piece of glass to protect the top
  • PERFECT storage for items I wanted to keep handy while outside and also a great place to rest a drink while relaxing on the porch :)

 DIY CRATE STORAGE BENCH

BEFORE....a plain wood crate that was an estate sale find

AFTER....A USEFUL PIECE FOR INSIDE OUR BACK DOOR

  • HOW I DID IT:
  • Cut a piece of MDF to the same size as the crate top
  • Used spray adhesive to attach a piece of foam to the MDF
  • Wrapped fabric around the foam and MDF and then attached the fabric underneath with a staple gun
  • Screwed the seat onto the crate top from inside the crate
  • A great addition by the back door where we can toss our shoes and take a seat while putting our shoes on
